As the creator of “imprfect” I consider myself a true authority. At the age of 44 I have done just enough living to have a healthy dose of hindsight but am still terribly naive and stupid when it comes to life, love, parenting, friendships, nutrition, politics…you get the picture, the list goes on and on. After 20 years of marriage I am rediscovering myself as a woman and as a mom to two really awesome but also imperfect boys. I struggle with confidence and body image just as I did when I was 20 but now have the added burden of sagging skin and “smile lines.” At what age do wrinkles become beautiful? Not at 44! This much I know. In my late 20’s and early 30’s I considered an epidural a woman’s best friend, now in my 40’s I am certain it’s Botox. That’s right, I am a divorced mom who injects her face with a neurotoxic protein to smooth out the forehead lines and to top that off, I literally just had to look up exactly what Botox is in Wikipedia.
That said, this blog is not about self-deprecation or airing dirty laundry. My goal for this blog is to be honest and transparent about real life and to prove that those things we perceive as imperfections are actually the source of great character and beauty. So even though I am extremely sensitive, unsure of myself, introverted and uncomfortable with the fact that I’m introverted, I also have a huge heart and capacity to love… if you don’t believe me you can ask any of my family, friends and people I have bribed.
I genuinely hope this blog inspires. Please leave comments, email me, interact with me and share with anyone you think would enjoy a refreshing dose of real.
